Just in time for festival season, wear colorful mash-ups of chevrons, prints, and other geometric details.

While we usually think of high-shine when we think nails, the latest trend is actually to remove that glossy finish. Opt for a single color or nail art, then don’t be afraid to add a matte top coat for effect.

Nail art aficionados have been looking to Japan for inspiration for a while. Embrace wearable and whimsical works of art by opting for embellishments, oval shapes, and shorter lengths.

There were lots of linear styles at New York Fashion Week. Sometimes a simple line is all it takes to add that extra something. Go minimal with a side part or maximize it with a grid or lattice look. Spring/ Summer 2015.

This urban-inspired look of drips, splatters, and a plethora of color add the perfect edge to a spring manicure. Get a tutorial for this look here.

Negative Space

Showing a little skin is definitely popular in the spring and summer months. If you feel like you still need to work on your waistline a bit, you can take the skin-baring trend to your nails instead by leaving clear space in the design. This peek-a-boo effect is known as negative space.

Try a French, solid color, nail art or a little bling -- but whatever you do, make sure you’re maintaining your feet. After months of being stuffed in socks it’s time to break out the open-toed shoes, so schedule a pedicure.

What trends do you want to try out on your nails this spring? Let us know in the comments below!

Style // March 4, 2015

We’ve all got big dreams, but I’m guessing we all have rough days or weeks, too, where we’re just not feeling it. For me, those are the days when I take the extra time to really look the part. As soon as I put on that shade of red lipstick or that gorgeous statement necklace, I get the little boost of external confidence that reminds me to show up and make things happen.

In addition to my daily work in PR, I’ve taken on a new side gig as a merchandiser for Chloe + Isabel, a fashion and lifestyle brand based in NYC. I am so inspired by this startup because female empowerment and entrepreneurship are essential to Chloe + Isabel's mission, and I know many Made Women – whether you’re selling jewelry to get your feet wet as a business owner, climbing the corporate ladder or thriving as the founder of a non-profit group – can relate.

Yes, personal style can be empowering. Whether you rock a Chanel suit or a set of diamond studs that you earned on your own, knowing that you look your best can really up your game. Topping off a great outfit with a great piece of jewelry can help create that polished, together look that will add to your credibility.

I’m loving so many of the looks that Chloe + Isabel has designed for spring, and I think any Made Woman can appreciate a good piece (or three! – Hey, we’re worth it) of jewelry. Here are a few of my favorite "power pieces" for the season.

Heritage Blossom Convertible Earrings

These can be worn two ways. If you need to be more subdued around the office, wear these as a pair of bright, sparkly stud earrings. Convert them by adding the floral drop piece and make a statement at happy hour.

Color Code Teardrop Necklace

Bright and light, this necklace can be paired with a more conservative suit or dress to add personality and fun to an outfit. With this piece, you can show off your personal style and femininity while also commanding attention.

Deco Fanfare Statement Necklace

I love how this necklace is a statement piece, yet also has classic elements with the black resin and crystals to make it work appropriate. Simple and sexy, it shows an edge without being over the top. Bonus: This necklace blends gold and silver to match any other jewelry you’re wearing. This one is great for a networking event!

Palm Royale North South Rings

If you’re looking to catch the eye in a more subtle way, try a bright ring like this one. It gives a great pop of color and glam, yet a single ring on your finger won’t be distracting for anyone who’s speaking with you, or if you’re presenting in front of a group.

Mirabelle statement bracelet

This has a great vintage feel to it, and I love the sparkle of crystals. Tasteful and classy this piece reads “opulence,” and is perfect for those ladies who are a little shy about bright, bold colors and stones. Wear this on an interview!

What are some of your favorite ways to look your best for spring in the office?

Fashion | Essential Items For Spring

Fashion // March 10, 2014

Spring will be here before we know it and I can’t think of a better reason to update my wardrobe with a few key pieces. This season is all about metallic, full shirts, leather, wide leg pants, suit shorts and so much more. As with all trends, you want to make sure you are styling yourself according to your body type. Here are a few ideas on how to rock the latest spring trends and pull off a flawless look.

Florals are no longer exclusively for your grandmother’s frumpy antique prints. From romantic lace, feminine flowers and bold prints, florals are making a statement this season. If you’re not keen on a head to toe floral look, try mixing a flirty full skirt with a solid top or a midi floral top with a solid high waist skirt.

Block heels

Make room stilettos, the block heel has made an appearance. Adding inches without sacrificing comfort, the block heel will be the obsession this spring. The block heel, which was once known as the “old lady” heel, has now evolved into something sleek and stylish. Try this style in sandals, pumps or even flats.

Cat eye makeup

This vintage makeup has reappeared on runways this season. The cat eye is a very versatile makeup look and can be worn with a more casual ponytail or more glammed up look with a high-textured curled look or bone straight hair. This look also affords you the opportunity to go crazy with an over-the-top lid and lip without looking clown-like.

Crop Top

Crop tops will be all the rage this season. Not only does it provide the perfect excuse to hit the gym, but it also allows you to show a bit of skin in an edgy, fashionable way. You can mix and match a crop top with a high waist skirt or jeans or let it all hang out with a maxi or full skirt, shorts or jeans for a great weekend look.

Graphic Prints

Stripes, swirls and dots, oh my! Daring prints are all over the runway this season. Fashion should be fun, so be courageous and mix and match patterns for an outrageously fabulous look. Mixing polka dots and stripes, colossal and mini print or geometric and retro shapes will be one sure way to achieve an eye-popping visual.

Donning light, floaty, transparent sheer fabric provides a bit of added sex appeal. The sheer look can be extra sexy, played up for a more casual look or be ultra punk. Be careful to not go too sheer as too much of a good thing can be awful; it’s quite easy to go from classy to trashy with this trend.

Beauty | Nail Looks For Spring

Beauty // February 24, 2014

If you're in LA, it's getting warmer and you can feel spring coming your way. If you're not in LA... Well, we're sorry. Either way, spring is coming and it's time to update your nail game.  We asked our staff to share their picks for nail colors. Check out these great nail looks for spring!

French Tip 2.0

I love a French manicure! It's the perfect nail look for every occasion, but I'm down to mix it up for spring! Instead of the traditional style, I could totally see myself rocking the multicolored tips. I love the pastels and how it's just the right amount of color without being overbearing. - Jasmin

A Little Bit Of Color

This nail look is so cute to me! It's a softer color, but it still adds a bit of a pop. It's somewhere between a power blue and a turquoise, which I think would look good on brown skin. I think it's fresh and clean for spring. :) - Serena

Connect The Dots

These nails have been “spotted” on several of the models from New York Fashion Week. The dotted look is fun, cute, and easy to do yourself! Expect to see much more of this style come Spring, with bright colors and Easter pastels. - Ava

Pink & Gold

These nails are so pretty! After months of winter, it's exciting to get to wear bright pink, and the gold glitter really makes them pop. - Jillian

Two Tone

This is a fresh, fun take on the classic french manicure. This color duo is chic yet playful, but different combos will deliver different levels of intensity. I love that it's simple enough to do at home! - Lindsey

Union Jack

I love this Union Jack French. With the Olympics going on, it's fun to show some national pride on your nails.  - Beth

I like a little bit of a design on my nails when I'm feelin' funky. Not something over the top, with chains and jewels hanging down but I do like a bit of creativity. Hey! Your nail bed is your canvas! This look is cute but not too much for work. - Serena

Shine Bright

I LOVE coral! It's one of those universal colors that looks good on every skin tone and it's fun! I typically keep it as a mainstay for my pedicures during the warmer months, but I know it would look just as fabulous on my hands.  - Jasmin

Egg Hunt

I love this look! The classic light pink works on several different skin tones and the girly nail art is subtle enough to wear at the office. It kind of reminds me of an Easter egg -- perfect for spring! - Lindsey

Style | Spring Fashion Must-Haves

Style // April 8, 2013

After winter hibernation it’s no wonder we’re desperate to show off what we’ve got. As a result, spring brings us some of the most daring looks. To stay ahead of the fashion curve for this new season here are a few items to punch up your look. Whether you’re ready to jump off the deep end with us or just want to add a little flare to your wardrobe, we’ve got it all from Grandma’s best to Batgirl-chic.

Sure it’s not practical but batgirl is a look this spring. Everywhere you turned at the world's fashion weeks this year some waif was being crushed under the weight of her jacket which was supported with nothing more than her shoulders. Wearing proper capes, or draping a coat may not allow for much gesticulation or bodily articulation (Vogue says don’t even think about hugging your friend) but, capes are bold and make a statement of chic power. Thankfully Sunday brunching doesn’t require much movement and thus lends itself perfectly to your cape aspirations. Even newly ordained Pope Francis is embracing the cape trend.

Patterned Pants

Did you buy colored jeans? Yes. You bought all the colored jeans. Great. Perfect. But now we have a new pants trend. This spring brings us tailored (non-jean) patterned pants. From legging tight Chanel-inspired houndstooth to colorful floral work pants, this item goes day to night as easy as a little black dress. They can be flirty and also, elegantly fun for work. Wear them with flats for a day out shopping or with heels and an oversized blazer for a day at the office.

Steampunk Glasses

Steampunk is one of the most eye-catching genres in fashion. Rooted in the Industrial Revolution and revived a century later in Japan’s whimsical world of Gothic Lolita fashion, Steampunk bridges the gap between science, technology, fashion, and fantasy. In a perfect world when Robert Downey, Jr.’s Sherlock and Tim Burton design for Oliver Peoples-For-Target, this is what you would get. In short, Steampunk is the one stop shop for the thinking woman’s fashion revolution. This spring bring your fashion IQ up a notch with these metallic, circular frames.

Rock Glam

If Steampunk is too much of a leap for you, you can get a similar edge with another of this Spring’s trends. Rock Glam is hanging around for warmer temps this year. This typically leather-heavy trend is more for winter but who says you can’t wear your bright yellow mini skirt with some studded or buckle-laden heels?

Brocade walks a fine line. It can either say “Look, I’m a walking 200 year old tapestry” or “I must have been aristocracy in another life.” Tread lightly, it is not the easiest thing to take what was probably once the pattern on your grandmother’s living room sofa, and wear it. But if you can - own it!

Style | Hot Accessories for Spring!

April 23, 2012

Spring and summer are always my favorite seasons when it comes to accessories. I think it’s the warm weather and the lack of clothing that make the choice of a hat or a cool pair of sunglasses so much more noticeable and appealing. I also think the rise in temperature is a perfect time to be a bit more daring in your style choices and pick pieces that really show off your personality.

Accessories for 2012 are all about bright colors, comfortable classics and bold statements….some maybe even mixed together into one ensemble. Here are a few must-haves. BONUS: they are all super affordable!

A colorful scarf/wrap-  J-Crew $49.50

Who says scarves are just for the winter??  By choosing one in a bright color and a breezy fabric, they are a perfect way to add a bit of pop to an outfit. Try pairing one with all white look for something classy enough for work but playful enough for lunch with friends.  Click here.

A Classic Fedora- Urban Outfitters $24.00

If you only have one hat in your closet make it this one! It’s perfect for a day at the beach or for those days where you don’t want to fuss with your hair. Not only is it classic and chic it also shades your face from the sun!  Get it here.

A Bold clutch- ASOS $32.72

A simple clutch in a bold neon or sherbet color is perfect for a night out! Not only does it catch people’s attention but it also helps with transitioning those cool weather fabrics and colors into outfits you can wear all year long.  No more waiting until next year to wear your long sleeve black mini!  Here it is.

Aviators- Ray Ban $195.00

If there ever was an accessory that can pair with anything, it’s the aviator. Neutral enough to wear with classic pieces, edgy enough to pair with a leather jacket and simple enough for a day of site seeing or while laying on the beach. Wear with jean shorts, a flowy tank and some sandals for effortless chic!  Click here!

Tribal Necklace - Nordstrom $88.00

Tribal designs are really hot in 2012 and I must say that it’s a trend I hope sticks around. They make great statement pieces and can take a solid plain tee into high fashion territory.  I would be careful though, one piece is usually enough to look great, while too much can look like you’re early for Halloween!  Get it here.

A Colorful Watch- Anne Klein $55.00

Watches are one of my favorite ways to add color to an outfit. They are slightly unexpected and are almost always appropriate. The one shown here combines a great nautical look with a bright orange. Pair with boyfriend jeans, flats and a white tee for a weekend outfit people will covet.  Snag this one here.

Spring is just around the corner which means it’s time to start thinking about fabulous weather, bold accessories,  SHOES, fashion and the season’s hottest nail colors and trends. Let’s face it, nothing can make or break an outfit like your nails.  Last season, everyone was in a frenzy about, dark grays, different shades of blue, brown and let’s not forget about the shatter polish everyone was rocking. This season is all about bold and vibrant colors, nail art, green, glitter and metallic.

Go Green!
Going green has never been easier as it will be the hottest nail color for the season. Stick to softer shades of green like pistachio, mint and sage. Although these are softer shades of green, they will certainly stand out and make a bold statement with any outfit.

Peppermint Patti- MAC $16.00        Navigate Her- Essie $8.00

Creamy Neutrals and pastels
Each season has a natural option. During the fall and winter seasons, the neutral options are typically black, brown, navy and gray. This spring, stick to pale pinks, sheer beige and shades of nude that are close to your skin tone to pull off a flawless and classic look.

Mod about you-OPI $8.00        Sandpiper- MAC $16.00       Cream Tea- Butter London $14.00

Bold Brights and Neons
Nothing says “Spring is Here!” better than bright bold colors. This season try tangerine, fuchsia, chartreuse and coral. Bold nails are a great way to spice up an outfit as an added pop of color. Also, try matching your nail color to your lipstick or shoes when wearing a neutral outfit as a fun color accent.

Tour de Finance-Essie $8.00            Did It On ‘Em- OPI Nicki Manaj $7.00        Truly Tangerine-Orly Nail Lacuer $6.99

Nail Art
Take a walk on the wild side this season with some nail art. You can add cheetah print, stripes, circles, lace, tie dye and so much more with Sally Henson’s Nail Effects. They are strips of nail polish that are applied like stickers and then are shaped to your nails. The best part is that there is no dry time so you can jump right back into your busy schedule without waiting around for your nails to dry. If you’re not that adventurous, try adding rhinestones, a small design or two tones to your nails which is a sure way  to spruce up a basic manicure while expressing your fun personality.

Nail Pen Art-Sally Henson $7.99                         Nail Effects-Sally Henson $7.00

Glitz and Glitter
Add a little sparkle to your manicure with glitter polish this season. Although glitter has been around for many seasons, it’s been updated with new shapes, sizes and colors for spring 2012.
